About the Role

Job Description: Boulder Outdoor Camp is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Camp Counselors to join our team. As a counselor, you will play a vital role in creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for campers ages 7-14 while fostering teamwork and a love for the outdoors. Counselors will work closely with the Lead Counselor and Camp Directors to deliver an engaging and enriching camp experience.


Key Responsibilities:

-Lead team-building activities and ensure a positive, inclusive atmosphere for campers.

-Supervise campers on daily hikes, ensuring they stay hydrated with frequent water breaks and stay engaged with games and activities.

-Drive an 18-passenger van or follow in your own vehicle to hike sites (gas reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use).

-Support the camp’s safety protocols, including being prepared to accompany campers to urgent care or the ER if needed, while ensuring the rest of the group is supervised.

-Promote a safe and bully-free environment by addressing any issues promptly and constructively.

-Engage campers in creative, age-appropriate games and activities during breaks and downtime.

-Assist with equipment checks and daily camp setup.

Requirements

Work Hours:

  • Standard hours are 8:30 AM - 4:15 PM with a paid lunch break on-site.

  • Opportunity to work extended hours until 5:00 PM if leading after-camp supervision, with additional pay for time beyond the $700/week rate.


  • Qualifications:

    • Enjoys hiking, working with kids, and leading outdoor activities.

    • Strong organizational and team-building skills.

    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

    • CPR certified (or willing to become certified; costs covered by the camp).

    • Pass a background check and fingerprinting (costs covered by the camp).

    • Available for paid training prior to the camp start date.


  • Preferred: UC Boulder / UC Denver / Colorado School of Mines students or candidates with a strong background in sciences such as geology, biology, or related fields.

Boulder Outdoor Camp is a unique micro-camp dedicated to inspiring curiosity, community, and a love for nature in kids ages 7-14. We take campers on exciting local and distant hikes, exploring destinations like Gross Reservoir and Rocky Mountain National Park. Our themed weeks focus on hands-on learning in areas like ecology, geology, and hydrology, creating unforgettable experiences for campers while fostering a deep connection to the outdoors.
