About the Role

Job Description: Boulder Outdoor Camp is seeking a responsible, energetic, and outdoor-loving Lead Counselor to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring a safe, fun, and enriching experience for our campers while supporting the camp’s daily operations. The Lead Counselor will work closely with the Camp Directors and counselors to provide exceptional leadership and care for our camp community.


Key Responsibilities:

-Assist the Camp Directors and step into the role of Assistant Director as needed.

-Maintain a clean driving record and be available to drive the camp’s passenger van or their own vehicle based on the needs of the camp (gas reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use).

-Conduct equipment checks and assist with preparing gear for daily activities.

-Facilitate safety training sessions for counselors and ensure all safety protocols are followed.

-Help manage parent inquiries and ensure accident reports are logged and parents are notified promptly.

-Promote a safe and inclusive environment by addressing and preventing any incidents of bullying or harassment.

-Supervise campers and counselors on hikes and during activities, ensuring the well-being of all participants.

-Lead by example in promoting a love for hiking and the outdoors.

Requirements

  • Work Hours:

    • Standard hours are 8:40 AM - 4:15 PM with a paid lunch break on-site.

    • Opportunity to work extended hours until 5:30 PM if leading after-camp supervision, with additional pay for time beyond the $850/week rate.


    Qualifications:

    • Preferred: UC Boulder / UC Denver / Colorado School of Mines students or candidates with a strong background in sciences such as geology, biology, or related fields.

    • Enjoys hiking, exploring the outdoors, and working with children ages 7-14.

    • Strong organizational and communication skills.

    • Clean driving record (required).

    • CPR certified (or willing to become certified; costs covered by the camp).

    • Pass a background check and fingerprinting (costs covered by the camp).

    • Available for paid training prior to camp start.

About the Company

Boulder Outdoor Camp is a unique micro-camp dedicated to inspiring curiosity, community, and a love for nature in kids ages 7-14. We take campers on exciting local and distant hikes, exploring destinations like Gross Reservoir and Rocky Mountain National Park. Our themed weeks focus on hands-on learning in areas like ecology, geology, and hydrology, creating unforgettable experiences for campers while fostering a deep connection to the outdoors.
